Walking the Way to Health is a partnership between Natural England and The British Heart Foundation, which since the year 2000 has encouraged more than a million people to walk more. It is organised locally by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. The scheme aims to encourage people to become more active and therefore healthier through short, recreational health walks. Walking has been shown to be extremely beneficial to health and is one of the easiest types of exercise people can do: it’s free, requires no special equipment and can be done by most people almost anywhere! Over 300 people a week are now "Walking their way to Health" in the Basingstoke and Tadley area. There are two walks each month in Tadley, led by trained Volunteer Walk Leaders. They start from the Library on the first Friday of the month at 1.30pm and also St Paul's Church car park in The Green on the third. There is no charge to come along, just wear clothes and shoes suitable for the weather and bring a drink. A new "WALK and TALK" group (refreshments and socialising will be available after the walk) will start from the Community Room at TADLEY POOL in July. Do you enjoy walking and meeting new people? If you would like to become part of the small team of volunteer walk leaders in Tadley please contact Jane Wilding at BDBC on 01256 845574.
