Re:So, an NHS Dentist 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I too phoned up the number given on here, when it first appeared and then one posted in the paper around 2 months ago that took you to the dental helpline where you could register. They then told me to phone the dentist to arrange my 'new patient appointment'. I duely phoned only to be told that I wasn't registered and that I'd need to go into the surgery and fill in one of their forms. I did that six weeks ago. I was told to call back in three weeks to make an appointment.

I called back, and after waiting for the phone to ring out twice, and somebody FINALLY answering the phone, to be told that there are no appointments until JUNE OR JULY

A few weeks later, my disabled son develops an absess. I call the dentist again who without waiting for me to explain say 'call the dental helpline number'.

Dental helpline flaberghasted that they have no appointments til june/july and ask me to call them back to see if they can fit son in anywhere. Call them back only to get the same response as before 'call the dental helpline number'

Dental helpline were brilliant and got my son an appointment with a dentist in Andover! (luckily my son goes to school there)

I suppose my word of warning is, beware if you need any urgent treatment, this dentist doesn't seem to be able to deal with it. Hopefully it is just because of the influx of patients and not enough staff that they are having trouble keeping up with, and they will settle down soon, but somehow I think not, especially if they are really planning on taking on the 3000 patients I read they were taking on...
